AIXM 5.0
AIXM 5.0 consititued a significant leap-forward in the evolution of the model. Starting from the experience accumulated with the operational implementation of the earlier versions, in particular AIXM 4.5, the objective was to take advantages of established information engineering standards, in particular Unified Modelling Language (UML) and the ISO-OGC standards for geographical informaton encoding and provision.
The major tenets are:
- An exhaustive logical data model, provided in the form of UML class diagrams and reports
- A temporality concept covering the complete timeline of the aeronautical data, including temporary updates (also known as Digital NOTAM);
- Alignment with ISO standards for geospatial information, in particular GML
- Support for the latest ICAO and user requirements for aeronautical data provision
- Modularity and extensibility
The AIXM 5.0 design objectives have been summarised in a "white paper" presented in 2006 in the a design review meeting that took place on the occasion of the Global AIM Congress held in Madrid, Spain.
